Sorry for being so late with this! D8
Here's how my first-ever experience at Anime USA went:
was a mixed bag for me. Before the convention, I had applied to the Artist's Alley approximately a month after the application opened, at the suggestion of a friend. This was the first time I have ever had my artwork juried. Both my friend, Hop-is-my-Hero
, and I got in, which was not a surprise since we both sell cosplay accessories as opposed to straight up print commissions.
We went to the convention filled with hope. The attendance numbers from previous years appeared as though the headcount at this con would be busy as ever. Nope. Not even close.
During the first day, myself and the Artist next to me did not make back enough money to cover dinner that night. DX
It also didn't help that we were both not only facing the back wall (usually conventions arrange the "back wall Artists" with their backs against the wall, NOT staring at it >_>). AND there just so happened to be an all-day live band jam session on the other side of said wall. This constant noise level (on top of another Artist across the room shaking our eardrums with heavy base did not help either) lead to migraines, not being able to hear customers, and a long day for us all.
Aside from the weekend of bad sales, the roommates of mine decided to throw an Artist networking Room Party. This, in fact, turned out great! It was a fun way to meet some other Artists, and who knew that Cards Against Humanity would be the perfect ice-breaker to get even the shyest of people to open up? xD
The party never got too wild, and when our neighbor did knock on our door, it was when we were all in bed anyways and attempting to get the stragglers to leave. I do believe this will become a regular convention Artist event!
Of course I cosplayed!
Here's a tiny preview of my Anarchy Stocking cosplay:
Oh... I could not tell you just how many times my Stocking cosplay
got confused for Twilight Sparkle. But, the whole time, I just went with it. Sure, I can be cosplaying both characters. Why not? Out of the few times I have seen My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle has been my fav. Who doesn't like a Tara Strong-voiced character anyways?
I AM glad I got to see BalthierFlare
wasn't totally a lonely con! Next time, if I even do return, I hope to walk around with her and just relax! It may just be that AUSA
needs to work things out with their staff a little bit more first...
